Obituary of Mark Thomas Petiot

December 12, 1963 – Drayton Valley, Alberta

November 19, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta

 

It is with heavy hearts, and great sadness the family of Mark Thomas Petiot announce his unexpected and peaceful passing on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at the age of 58 years.

 

Mark was born is Drayton Valley, AB, but grew up in the Calgary community of Lake Bonavista from the age of ten. Mark attended high school at Bishop Grandin and after, Mark attend SAIT where he graduated from the Culinary Arts program. In his time as a chef, he worked at the Calgary Winter Club, and at many popular restaurants in Calgary.

 

Later, Mark moved on to his “Second Act”, long-haul truck driving across North America. After years seeing the continent from behind the wheel, he settled down to driving gravel truck in the City of Calgary.

 

Mark loved his family and talked to them every day. Mark was godfather to all four of his nieces and nephews. When the kids were small, he was the “Fun Uncle”. Mark was also the go-to guy for specialty birthday cakes. From Teddy Bears to Pokémon, Mark had impressive creative skills we only ever saw in his confectionaries.

 

When the kids were older, right to this October, he and one of his brothers would take them for dinner birthday dinners, sometimes dubbed “the meat feast” at a local Brazilian Barbeque.

 

Mark is survived by his loving mother Rose Petiot, brothers and sisters-in-law, Scott Petiot (Linda), David Petiot (Sandra); nieces, Lily Petiot, and Rose Petiot; and nephews, James Petiot, and Russell Petiot. Mark was predeceased by his father Daniel Petiot.

 

Mark loved animals big and small. His dogs, Timber, Chewy, and finally Jake, were his loyal sidekicks throughout the years.
