Condolences
My brother Randy Smith told me about George's passing. When I worked at SlimThorpe Recovery Centre, George was always ready to have a chat or help someone out no matter what.
I'm so sorry to hear this news. Condolences to the family.

We just heard of George’s passing .He was a wonderful friend and an amazing, talented man. We will be left with plenty of great memories.
From Marie-Louise Perron:
I remember the first time I met your Dad. It was summer. I don’t remember why I had gone to your place, but he was in the back yard where there was a pottery wheel, bags of clay, pots of different shapes and sizes all over the place AND a wall about 5 ft high that ran all the way to the alley, almost completely covered with pots of different sizes - whole, broken, fired in different ways, but all still in an unglazed state. That wall was just beautiful!
I said something like, “That’s an amazing wall!” “Well,” he said, “it cost me (expletive, expletive, expletive) for the (expletive) materials to learn how to throw pots, that I sure am (expletive, expletive) not going to let it go to waste!”
When I see that beautiful wall in my mind’s eye, I think of your Dad & his tenacity, you coming to class in jeans that you had embroidered, and all the new ideas for things you had thought about and couldn’t wait to try out - and then did.
Safe journey to the Spirit World, George Edward Hougham, and a grand celebration with family & friends when you get there.
Saw George's obituary in the Lloyd Source Jan 12, 2022 and I just had to say something...I met George at Thorpe Centre in the 80's and had many conversations with him... I was a social worker in my 30's...I new the Hougham name before I met George...in the 70's I did cattle roundups with my Uncle Leonard Parke to Hougham's Shack, north of Onion Lake... meeting George later I learned something of his life as a cowboy..Uncle Leonard was ministering to some young people one winter who had by God's grace come out of drug addiction and desired to be baptised in water...Leonard knew George had a pool and he graciously consented to them using it, saying "they must have one hell of a religion to do that", it being mid winter...
Anyhow I just had to let somebody know I cared for George and that he meant something to me...I pray he found what we all need to find before we leave this often, cold, uncaring place...
Sincerely,
Bill Braun

Marta, Tori and Toni, our thoughts are with you during this difficult time ♥️. Mom and Dad have very fond memories socializing with your parents. They especially enjoyed New Year’s Eve dances and parties afterwards! We also remember George calling Lorne, ‘creamconecup’!! I have a smile on my face while writing this; there was always laughter when I spent time at your house!
We are thinking of you and send love to all three of you ♥️
The Foster Family ♥️
