Obituary of Kenneth Carlyle DORSCHER
August 28, 1931 – Bow Island, Alberta
April 10, 2019 – Okotoks, Alberta
It is with great sadness the family of Ken Dorscher wishes to announce his passing on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at the age of 87 years.
Ken was born and raised in Bow Island, AB. After graduating high school Ken worked for PFRA, rebuilding the Bow River Irrigation System near Arrowood, AB. He then went on to work for UMA Consulting Engineers, Canadian Betchel Limited where a colleague from work shared his adventures in New Zealand piquing Ken’s interest. In December 1959, Ken took an extended leave of absence and travelled by ship to New Zealand. Over the years, Ken often shared his photographs and memories of his trip with his family. After returning to Canada, he was employed by Walker Newby Consulting Engineers as a Drafting Technician where he worked for nearly thirty-four years. Ken met his wife Sharron while taking dance lessons at Arthur Murray Dance Studio. They wed on December 29, 1964 and together raised their four children. Ken was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who always put his family first. His children and grandchildren brought him great joy. He was an active member of St. Cecilia’s parish for over fifty years. In the late 1980’s he joined Council 4878 of the Knights of Columbus. He served in a number of positions on the council, joined the 4th degree in 1989, and was active in the Colour Corps.
Ken is survived by his wife Sharron, daughter Lori (Loren) Henneigh, and their children Amanda and Shae-Lynn; son Kim (Ivania) and their children Steven and Ashley; and daughter Karen (Dean) Turner and children Joey and Samira. Ken was predeceased by his son Lee, parents, Valentine and Josephine; sister Anna Sneddon, and brothers George and Joe.
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church (321 – 90th Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB) on Sunday, April 21, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church on Monday, April 22, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Reception to follow at the Parish Hall.
