Obituary of Shaune Prince

April 12, 1962 - Winnipeg, Manitoba

February 25, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with heavy hearts and immense sadness that we announce the passing of Shaune Prince at the Southwood Hospice Care in Calgary, AB at to the age of 60 years young, after her courageous journey with cancer. She faced her illness with dignity and grace and made every effort to stay with us for as long as she could endure.

Anyone fortunate to have crossed paths with Shaune on her life's journey will recall that she had a vibrant personality, a witty sense of humour, a positive outlook, and a great love for her friends and family, and above all others, her immense love for her daughter Sydney.

Shaune had a generous spirit and a beautiful soul with a very bright light in her heart. She was caring, compassionate, and selfless. Truly one of the kindest and funniest people we will ever know. She had the warmest smile that could brighten up anyone’s day. And her laugh…that infectious laugh that just made you break out into laughter along with her.

She was a great storyteller that kept you wide-eyed and amazed. She always had a way of keeping the family history alive and was always happy to share with anyone who asked. We are all so proud that she carried all those stories and memories from the many talks she had with our beloved gran, Evelyn Prince.

Shaune had a deep love for gardening, and you could feel the love whenever you walked through her gate into her garden of paradise. Carefully choosing every single flower to plant and placing them near her favourite knickknacks that she picked up at the thrift shops. She and Sydney would look forward to birds nesting in her tree every year and would check on them daily to make sure the babies were ok. She really loved her time outside in the garden with Jax by her side—we know it brought her joy. Now her beautiful garden will continue to bloom with love in every flower, every year, for her daughter Sydney to love and appreciate.

Shaune also loved her music and playing her guitar. Her family and friends will always have the greatest memories of Friday nights with her playing good ol’ country songs and everyone singing along at the top of their lungs. But Rod Stewart was her ultimate favourite—everyone knew that. Sweet memories indeed.

One of her favourite pastimes was to watch her sports including Tennis Championships, Flames Hockey Games to the Olympic Games—or just about any sport that was on TV that day. She grew up with the love of sports starting in Windsor, ON with basketball and then onto baseball in various leagues in Calgary to skiing with her infamous skiing buddies at Sunshine Mountain in Banff.

Shaune will be forever loved and missed by her daughter Sydney (Luis), her mother Deanna, sisters, Danielle (Steven) and Lisa; brother Lonnie, uncles, Ray (Sharon), Randy, and Barry; many cousins, including her “Cuz” Carol, many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

A special heartfelt thank you to her fam-friends, David and Stacy Harding, Bill, Caroline, Louise and her many, many close buds from near and afar and who were continually sending their love and support for Shaune, Sydney, and the family.

The family would like to thank Dr. Tanya and the many nurses and staff at the Southwood Hospice for showing such compassion and kindness during her time there. We would also like to thank Dr. Marshall Ross and the medical professionals at the Rockyview Hospital for their exceptional care and for helping her stay with us a little longer. Special thanks to Dr. Karim at the Tom Baker Cancer Center and Dr. Ramadam at the Medilink Medical Center for providing her with exceptional care for nearly four years. Also special thanks to the Home Care Nurses who gave their support to Shaune towards the end of her journey.
