Obituary of Dwayne Jerry Keen

On May 5, 2023, Dwayne Jerry Keen, passed away at the age of 57 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

 

Born in Saskatoon in 1966, he grew up alongside his three brothers before earning his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Saskatchewan. In 1989, As a child, Dwayne loved spending time with his three brothers and enjoyed playing games and getting into trouble with them. He also had a passion for reading and would often be found at the library. Swimming at the pool was another favorite pastime of his.

 

As he grew older, Dwayne's love for music and comedy emerged, and he pursued these passions with great enthusiasm. Dwayne moved to Calgary, where he began a successful career at the Calgary Sun. It was there that he met the love of his life and best friend, Tracy, and the couple tied the knot in 1993. Over the years, Dwayne made many lifelong friends at the newspaper, which brought him great joy.

 

In 2000, Dwayne's life changed forever with the birth of his son, Wesley, who brought him immeasurable happiness and of whom he was incredibly proud. Dwayne cherished every moment with Wesley and took great joy in watching him grow and thrive.

 

In 2006, he transitioned to radio sales, ultimately leading him to Chilliwack, British Columbia. However, in 2010, he moved back to Calgary, where he continued to pursue his passions. Throughout his life and career, Dwayne touched the lives of many, amassing a large and wonderful collection of friends.

 

Dwayne is survived by his loving wife Tracy, their son Wesley (and Wesley’s girlfriend Madi), as well as his mother Phyllis Elder and her husband Henry. He also leaves behind his three brothers and their families - Brent (Suzanne and Alex), Troy (Payton, Austin, and Dallen), and Earl (Carol, Ethan, and Brigitte) - all of whom were dear to his heart. In addition, Tracy's family, Dave Highfield and brother-in-law Jon Pease (Gwen, Jacob, and Jackson), mourn his passing and cherish their memories of Dwayne. Although he is no longer with us, Dwayne's spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

 

As per Dwayne's wishes, there will not be a formal funeral. Instead, he requested that his friends and loved ones raise a glass and enjoy a cupcake in his honor. Dwayne's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and his infectious laughter and humor will be deeply missed. Despite the challenges he faced in his life, Dwayne's sense of humor and zest for life never faltered, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.
