Paul Jensen

Obituary of Paul Edward Jensen

September 3, 1936 – Innisfail, Alberta

May 8, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

Paul Jensen passed away suddenly and peacefully on Monday, May 8, 2023 surrounded by his family.

Paul was born in Innisfail, AB, to Ingemann and Erna Jensen, who had emigrated from Denmark to the farming community of Dickson, AB. Paul, his parents, and brothers Leo, Gunnar, Erling, and Norm were well-known first in the Dickson farming community and later in their own personal, and business lives, for their fun, encouraging hospitality, and entertainment. On a return ship voyage from Denmark, Paul and his family received money for providing daily musical entertainment. They were nearly “scouted” to the United States, if it was not for a firm “no” from their parents.

Paul grew up with the love of his life Myrna Nielsen, and they were first married at the age of ten in a playhouse located on the rolling hills of Myrna’s parents’ home. Erling, Paul’s brother, was the best man and Ferne, Myrna’s twin sister was the maid of honour. Their rings were made from a plastic necklace. They decided to officially play house and were legally married in Dickson, AB, on August 6, 1960. Paul and Myrna settled in Calgary, AB, where Paul began working for Kwik Car Wash who eventually transferred him to Kwik Auto Body. This led to a long, satisfying career in auto body repair.

Paul loved their home located in Bowness and especially their yard. One of Paul’s greatest desires in life was to provide for and be a good husband to Myrna, and a good father to his daughters, Janice (Jim), and Ginger (Chris). He always worked hard and was known as a good neighbour.

Paul had a passion for sports (football, hockey, and wrestling) and was welcoming, helpful, and encouraging to people (even those he did not know). Paul and Myrna enjoyed getting together with their siblings, spouses, nieces, and nephews, and meeting with friends and neighbours from Bowness. They also enjoyed driving the “Valiant” in Bowness. Paul had fond memories of travelling to Hawaii, USA, as a family and vacationing with Dave and Ferne Knight, and their family, Ginny, Pam, and Angie.

Paul had a special heart and compassion for children. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, Travis (Angela), Kyle (Kelsey), and Kiana; and later his great-grandchildren, Cassandra Ann, Reyleigh, Ryker, and Charlotte.

Paul was predeceased by his parents, Ingemann and Erna Jensen, and his brothers, Ova, Leo, Gunnar, and Erling.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Heritage, 1708, 16th Avenue N, across from the North Hill Shopping Centre, Calgary, AB) on May 17, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. All family, friends, and neighbours are welcome to come and pay their respects.
