Obituary of Nicole Isaacson-Mellis

Nicole Isaacson-Mellis passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2023, in Calgary, AB.

Nicole was born in Raymond, AB on January 9, 1943, to Joy and Ralph Isaacson. In 1963, Nicole married Sheldon Gurney and they became the proud parents of ten children. After moving to Calgary in 1986, Nikki married Clare Mellis in 1993 who passed away in 2006. She met her partner Blair in 2008 with whom she has created many happy memories.

Nikki was a free thinker and an incredibly gifted artist, one of her greatest joys was spending hours creating beautiful paintings in her studio. She loved music, dancing and being with her family. She loved dressing in beautiful clothing, jewelry, and having dance parties. She shared her talents by teaching jazz dance, aerobics, and painting classes. Her paintings are a gift that she will pass on to her children and family. Nikki could be seen happily zooming around town, bopping, and singing to music in her little car she dubbed “Baby Bug”.

Nicole was predeceased by her father Ralph Isaacson, mother Joy Heninger, stepfather Willard Heninger, brothers, Val Isaacson and Bob Heninger; sons, Benjamin and James Gurney; and granddaughter Sydney McIntosh. Her family left behind to mourn her loss is her partner Blair Langston, children, Lisa, Elizabeth, Shannon, Kim, Rob (Derek), Dawn (Scott), Michelle (Faron), and David (Shelley); sister Joanne Miller, brothers, Darrel, Lawrence, Art, and Grant Heninger; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whom she all loved dearly.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Nicole’s life will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (10923 24 Street SW, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Prairie Sky Cemetery (12800 – 100 Street SE, Calgary).
