Obituary of Ron Stoley

May 19, 1925 – Beverly, Alberta

May 17, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with mixed emotions that we announce the passing of Rondle (Ron) Henry Stoley. Due to escalating dementia symptoms over the past several years, family witnessed his decline and loss of connection with the people and activities he once held dear. He passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, two days shy of his 98th birthday.

Ron was born to Henry and Annie Stoley, on May 19, 1925, in the town of Beverly, now a suburb of Edmonton. The family soon moved to High Prairie, where they homesteaded. It was a hard life but included memories of hunting, fishing, and playing outdoors with his siblings. Despite having to leave school after grade eight, Ron went on to have a successful career in the oil industry and eventually ran his own company, Stoley Drilling.

His work in seismic brought him to Estevan, SK, where he met Marjorie on a blind date. They were married on June 26, 1954, and continued the nomadic lifestyle of the oil patch, living in many Alberta communities and even spent two years in Australia. They had three children, Jim, Ron (Denise) and Brenda (Kelly) during this period and eventually settled in Calgary, enjoying many years in the Highwood community, making lifelong friends while raising their family. Retirement brought a move to Balzac and two decades of acreage life before heading back to the city and living, first in a home in Haysboro and then in a condo before the need for greater intervention necessitated long term care.

Ron and Marj shared many good times with friends, socializing, dancing, and playing cards. In his 70’s, Ron took up wood carving and leaves behind many wildlife creatures for the family to enjoy.

Ron was predeceased by his parents and eight siblings, including his twin brother Randy. He was a proud grandfather to Kyle (Mariah), Andrea (Matt), Heather (James) and Nichole and great-grandfather to Harper and Wilder.

Thank you to Alberta Health Services and all the long-term Care workers, who helped him manage his final years battling with dementia.

A Memorial Service will be held at a future date. Condolences, memories, and photos can also be shared and viewed here.
