Obituary of Bobbie Elden OLSON
November 10, 1931 – Camrose, Alberta
August 27, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta
Bob, beloved husband of Beryl Martha Marie Olson (nee Schmaus) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, August 27, 2018 at the age of 86 years.
On February 3, 1950 Bob married the love of his life, Beryl Schmaus. They had met when she was fourteen and he was sixteen at a dance in Barrhead, chaperoned by his future father in law.
Bob was an avid sportsman and this was evident by his strong level of competition as he played the pivotal role of catcher for the Edmonton semi pro baseball team, Carter Pontiacs. He was very much involved in coaching all levels of baseball and hockey. In fact sports and community played a strong part of his life. He was past president of the Sherwood Park minor hockey league and had many roles in that capacity. His sons fondly remember his commitment when he would flood and paint the lines on the only two rinks, at that time, in the community of Sherwood Park. Even minus forty degree weather at 6:00 a.m. would not hinder his devotion to the community and his family.
He and Beryl also enjoyed traveling, especially their annual trips to Hawaii with friends.
The last forty years Bob’s passion was golf. He enjoyed playing with his twin brother, his sons, friends and members of the Highland golf course in Edmonton. Even in retirement he combined sport with a job as a course Marshall for the Chilliwack Country Club in BC and River’s Edge Golf Club in Okotoks, AB.
Last but not least his, career was exceptional from a trade’s man to a businessman. He started a trade with Vet’s sheet metal over forty years ago and progressed to own a successful western Canadian sheet metal and HVAC company called United Ventilation.
Family was always the corner stone of Bob’s life and he is lovingly remembered by his wife, Beryl Olson; his three children, Doug Olson and his wife Lori, Jeff Olson and his wife Karen and Tim Olson and his wife Shannon; his seven grandchildren Karlee, Krystal, Kelsey, Ryan, Kelley, Sawyer and Fynnleigh and six great-grandchildren Tavian, Daelan, Ashton, Beth, Emerson and James.
A Family Funeral Service will be held. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
