Obituary of Kenneth Lawrence Godwin
November 18, 1935 – Winnipeg, Manitoba
September 28, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta
Kenneth L. Godwin passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, in Calgary, AB, just shy of his 88th birthday.
Ken was born and raised in Winnipeg, MB; trained and worked as a Chartered Accountant there. Subsequent years took him and his family to settle in New Zealand, and then Calgary. Upon retirement, he and Dorothy lived in their beautiful home in Victoria for over thirty years, with many trips sailing the waters around Vancouver Island. In 2022, they moved back to Calgary to be closer to family for their twilight years.
Ken will be remembered as a strong, outspoken man who loved reading, skiing, sailing, riding his motorcycle in the foothills, cycling in the UK and at home, woodworking, knitting, playing the banjo he built and most especially, playing his beloved piano.
Ken attended Anglican services at Church of Our Lord in Victoria. He and Dorothy spent many years volunteering with Compassionate Warehouse in Victoria, and tending their corner garden and home in Fairfield - which always garnered many compliments from passersby. They also had lots of happy adventures while sailing the waters around Vancouver Island. He was an old salt, after all.
Ken is survived by his wife, Dorothy Godwin, his daughter Jodie (David) Godwin, grandchildren, Leah, and Samuel of Ontario; daughter Karen (Bill) Biko and grandchildren, Katelin, & Sidney of Calgary.
We love you. And we will meet you again, with sun on our faces, as the dawn of a new day touches our sorrows to joy everlasting.
In living memory of Kenneth Godwin, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, Ab t2x 3j3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.
