Obituary of Mohinder Rano Kaur Neote
April 29, 1958 – Nairobi, Kenya
October 4, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta
Mohinder “Rano” Kaur Neote (nee Matharu), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at the age of 65 years.
Rano was born in Nairobi, Kenya on April 29, 1958. Rano graduated from the Arya Girls School, she then went on to graduate from Mount Royal College with a diploma in Information Technology.
She worked for the Pembina Pipeline Corp. in the IT department and stayed with the company for twenty-five years.
She volunteered with Sarb Akal Classical Music Society Calgary.
Rano accomplished much through her life and was particularly proud of when she became a grandma, it was a surreal and proudest moments. She was proud of all her daughters, and their achievements. And when her spouse won the five-kilometer race.
Rano enjoyed comic strips, walking, sudoku, comedies, reading, and pilates. She loved art, plants, animals, and spending craft time with grandkids.
Rano’s most memorable vacations were when they took a family trip to Hawaii, USA. And staying in the Gold room at Fairmont Hotel in Banff, AB, for her 65 birthday. As well as the two months spent in Kenya, and especially the Hot Air Balloon and Masai Mara.

She will be most remembered for her wise words and sound advice that relate any age, and always treating her guests like Gods.

Your kindness and compassion have meant the world to us and have helped us navigate through the loss of our beloved Rano. Thank you for being there for us, and for honoring her memory in such a beautiful way.
Besides her loving husband Jaspinder, Rano is survived by her three daughters Kulwant Kaur Kalsi (Arvinder Singh Kalsi), of Calgary, AB, Jaswant Kaur Rihal (Sukhjit Singh Rihal), of Calgary, AB, Jai Kaur Neote, of Calgary, AB; three grandchildren, Amrit Kaur Kalsi, Shiv Singh Rihal, and Ranveer Singh Kalsi, all of Calgary, AB.
Rano is also survived by her two brothers Gurdev Singh Matharu (Amrit Kaur Matharu), and Sukhdev Singh Matharu (Malvinder Kaur Matharu); five sisters Joginderpal Kaur Neote (Husband: Paramjit Singh Neote) Perminder Kaur Bhatti (Jaswinder Singh Bhatti), Ravinder Kaur Chana (Sarjit Singh Chana), Surinder Kaur Bimbra (Tarsam Singh Bimbra), and Rajdev Kaur Chana (Harpal Singh Chana). As well as two bunnies, Coconut and Licorice.
Rano was predeceased by grandparents Jawala Singh Matharu and
Harbans Kaur Matharu, Pakhar Singh Sembhi and Harnam Kaur Sembhi, parents Pritam Singh Matharu and Chanan Kaur Matharu.
A Funeral Service will be held, on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mrs. Neote’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service.
