Obituary of John Frederick Gradishar

It is with great sadness that the family of John “Hap” Gradishar of Calgary, AB announces his passing on Sunday, October 15, 2023, at the age of 88 years.
Hap was born in Calgary, AB on April 3, 1935, to the late Rose and Joseph Gradishar. He was predeceased by his three siblings, Frank, Mary and Ralph.
Hap and his wife Renate were married for 46 years until her passing in 2005. He is survived by his son Robert William Gradishar (Maureen), two grandchildren, Cooper John Gradishar (Hannah), Jayne Gradishar; and his great-grandson Gibson Robert Gradishar, all of Calgary, AB.
Hap spent his early years as a tinsmith and was a maintenance and handyman throughout the years. He loved working on projects both for work and for his family.
Hap enjoyed hunting and fishing for many years and most recently, hunting for collectibles and good deals with Rob every Saturday morning. Hap loved watching Reggie, the family boxer and always had a meatball scavenger hunt set up for his visits.
Hap was a character, strong in his opinions and in his love for his family. We will miss him and will be telling “Hap” stories for many years to come.
A Graveside Service will be held at St. Mary’s cemetery (Erlton Street and 32 Ave SW, Calgary, AB) on Monday, October 23, 2023, at 11:00 a.m.
Please join us for a Celebration of Life at Limericks pub (7304 Macleod Trail SE, Calgary, AB) on Monday, October 23, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. We’ll share memories and a toast to Hap at 4:30 p.m.
