Condolences
Joan was a special person, especially to the single missionary candidates at CTS. She always had a warm smile and a big hug for us, along with plenty of encouragement. She stayed in touch with many of us too. Her classes, wisdom and wonderfully wry sense of humour will be treasured memories for many of us. She will be greatly missed. So glad to have had her in my life!
Our deepest condolences to the family of Joan Carter. I had the privilege of meeting Joan at Canadian Bible College. She was a mentor to me and let me jointly teach in her Seminary classes. Much to my delight, she later joined my home church in Calgary where we frequently visited after services. She on occasion referred to me as "one of her girls (mentee). I hold this in a special place of my heart, to be one of the lucky ones. ❤️
We had the good fortune of having Joan as a member of our "Dental Family" We will miss her smile that is for sure. May the fond memories keep her close in your hearts always!
Dear family of Joan,
I offer sincere sympathy on Joan's passing, and celebrate with you her life, well lived. Joan was my clinical nursing instructor at the Regina Grey Nuns School of Nursing in my first year, 1971. Recently, over 70 classmates of RGN from the 1973 graduating class gathered for our 50 year reunion, and many of us from Joan's group, Group L, shared stories and memories from that time. We loved Joan and she loved us. Joan's patience, compassion, nursing excellence and lovely sense of humour got us through that first year in nursing school, and set the foundation for us for our long nursing careers. My husband, Dr. George Smadu, and I remained friends with Joan for the years she was in Regina, and Joan gifted us with a beautiful painting of the Three Sisters, painted by her father, when we married. She will always hold a very special place in our hearts and prayers.
Dr. Marlene Smadu, RN (Retired), EdD, LLD (h.c.)
It has been a joy and privilege to learn from and to work with Joan in various capacities, encouraging others as they work around the world in ministry. And then as we moved to Alberta these past 5 years to be able to visit and enjoy her company as God continued to shine through you to all those around. You definitely fought the good fight and have now received your WELL DONE. We shall miss you but look forward to meeting again in heaven. Duncan and Olwyn Westwood
