Obituary of Betty Aline Speer
September 1, 1946 - November 9, 2023
Betty Speer of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at the age of 77 years.
Betty was born in Edmonton, AB to Alexander and Aline Berglund. She attended Bow Valley College formerly known as Alberta Vocational Centre for her degree as an RNA. She had a lengthy career in Calgary working as an RNA, Office Nurse, Medical office receptionist, and a Certified Medical Transcriptionist.
Betty enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, movies, and music. She loved the sunny things in life like sunflowers, Winnie the pooh, and Tigger. She would often spend many dedicated hours crocheting for the Childrens Hospital and for her grandchildren. She took great pride, care, and creativity in making beautiful pieces for others to enjoy and wear. Betty had a very giving and kind heart, supporting many charities throughout her lifetime. She greatly treasured longstanding friendships that lasted her lifetime.
She is survived by her son Todd, daughter-in-law Tassila, grandchildren Ruby and Adrian; sisters, Dori, Peggy, and Catherine; brothers, Rick and Real; their spouses, and her nieces and nephews.
Betty's son Todd and his family would like to thank her friends Cher, Eric, sister-in-law Joanne, and brother Real for spending time with Betty in helping make her last months memorable and her sister Dori for her loving words of encouragement and strength to Betty when she needed them the most. We would also like to thank our dear family friend Judy for helping us make her more comfortable and well cared for, we are eternally grateful for these wonderful people in her life. We would also like to express our deepest appreciation for the extraordinary loving care and support that was given to Betty on a daily basis by the staff at Southwood Hospice, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
