Obituary of James Brennand Rorison
June 10, 1950 – Howick, Quebec
November 23, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta
James (Jim) Brennand Rorison passed away suddenly on Thursday, November 23, 2023, at the age of 73.
Jim is survived by his wife Bonnie of 50 years, son Tyler (Nicole) and daughter Sheena (Greg). He was also a loving Papa to his five grandchildren: Caley, MacKenna, Finley, James, and Callum.
Jim spent his career in the auto industry. The job led him to travel and live across Canada. Both Jim and Bonnie enthusiastically embraced the flair and cultures of each city they were transferred to and met many wonderful people along the way, making lasting friendships. Jim’s last transfer was to Airdrie, AB in 2001, where he had since settled in his retirement. Living out west had led him to develop a love for the rodeo circuit and country music, and it was very common to see Jim and Bonnie travelling to many rodeos throughout the summer months. Jim also deeply appreciated all sports and enjoyed going to live sporting events. Jim and Bonnie were proud Calgary Roughnecks fans and have been season ticket holders since they moved to Alberta.
If Jim was not seen immersed in a book as an avid reader, watching a sports game on tv or taking his beloved dog for a walk, he was often seen with his grandchildren. Jim was a loyal husband and a loving father, but nothing made him happier than being his grandchildren’s Papa. He was their biggest cheerleader, often seen cheering them on the sidelines at their various activities, giving them the best and silliest advice or cuddling and laughing with them. They loved their Papa dearly and knew how lucky they were to have had him in their lives.
Jim will be fondly remembered for his quick wit, helpful nature and his deep love and loyalty to his family.
Jim requested a private visitation for only his children and grandchildren. However, in lieu of flowers for the family, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, (200, 119 – 14th Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6 Telephone: (403) 264-5549, www.heartandstroke.ca) or the Cochrane Humane Society, (62 Griffin Industrial Pointe, Cochrane, AB, T4C 0A3, Telephone: (403) 932-2072, www.cochranehumane.ca ) would be appreciated.
Happy Trails, Papa. Until we meet again.
In living memory of Jim Rorison, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Airdrie, 300 Towerlane Drive, Airdrie, AB T4B 3L8, Telephone: 403-948-1100.
