April 19, 1945 – Calgary, Alberta
November 23, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta
It’s with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John ‘Barry’ Steeves. Barry was born in Calgary on April 19, 1945, to Dorris and John Steeves. Barry became a CMA accountant. He worked for Hudson Bay company for many years and then with Ince holdings, until the day he decided to start GW Cycle World Ltd with his loving wife Patricia Steeves, and his brother and sister-in-law Dennis and Dianne Little. They all started the company in 1979, and the company still continues to be run by the family. Barry was an entrepreneur who followed his dreams and passions.
Barry’s passion was motorcycles. He would love to be out on bike rides and bike trips with his friends. However, Barry’s true passion was his wife and his kids. He had many health struggles over the years, but he always stayed positive and kept going. He was a strong man and he was a fighter. He wanted to make sure his kids and wife were always taken care of.
Barry is survived by his two daughters, Trudy and Michelle; his son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Bryndan; his granddaughter Ember; and his beloved dog moose. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Dianne Little and their daughters, Cicily and Amy; his siblings Lori Tratch, Kevin Steeves and Darryl Steeves; his longtime best friend John Stewart; and his loyal and supportive friend Igway Chukwu. Barry was predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years Patricia.
