Obituary of Michael Gavin Pailer
June 2, 1977 – Calgary, Alberta
November 26, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta
Michael “Mike” Pailer, beloved father, son, and brother, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 26, 2023, while under the attentive care of Dulcina Hospice Care, Calgary AB, at the age of 46 years.
Michael entered the world a little too early and left us much too soon. From a very young age, Michael gifted us all with unbounded compassion and love. Growing up since his early school years and remaining closely tied to Cochrane, AB, he revelled in bringing people together with diplomacy and concern for others while remaining private and determined to never be a burden when facing struggles of his own.
Michael loved listening to, creating, and sharing his joy in music. And as the eldest of six very active siblings, some of his happiest hours were spent in martial arts training together and on makeshift football fields. He often directed his genius toward improving systems or computer programming and always took pride, whatever the task, in a job well done. Michael was also a master of delightful surprise when sliding in the perfect, often comedic, act or comment while spending both formal and fun times with family and friends. Whatever the circumstance, Michael focused on positives.
Michael, we love all that is you.
Michael is survived by his daughter, Makayla Roberts (Mackenzie) and grandchildren Harper and Finnley of Lethbridge AB, mother Leslie Blaikie (nee Vickery) (Rick) of Fort Nelson BC, brothers Stephen Pailer of Cochrane AB and Robert-Joseph (nee Pailer) Burgis (Sarah) of Calgary AB, sisters Cheryl Cameron (nee Pailer) of Calgary AB, Sara Pailer of Cochrane AB, and Alva-Marie Pailer (Chris) of Dartmouth NS, grandmother Elizabeth Vickery of Kitchener ON, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family, with special appreciation of Lisa Daye (Richard) of Lethbridge AB.
Michael was predeceased by his father, Gavin Pailer, in 2011.
A service honouring Michael will be held at Cochrane Alliance Church, 902 Glenbow Drive, Cochrane at 11:00am on Friday December 15, 2023. A light luncheon will follow.
Family will then be gathering at The Canadian Brewhouse, 11 Bow St., Cochrane at 3:00pm, and would be pleased should you wish to drop by for a visit and get yourself a snack or beverage.
As one of Michael’s proudest achievements was the work done in support of providing for homeless persons, his family asks that you consider making a donation to the Mustard Seed in the community of your choice.
