Obituary of Prema Bhargava
September 12, 1931 - Ajmer, India
November 28, 2023 - Calgary, Alberta
Mrs. Prema Bhargava passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on November 28, 2023. Joining her husband, Mr. Narsingh Nath Bhargava, who passed away only ten days prior. Born in Ajmer, India, on September 12, 1931, she accompanied her husband to immigrate to Canada in 1993 to be with her daughters and their families.
A loving wife, daughter, daughter-in-law, mother, sister, and grandmother, she was always there to provide the needed support, perseverance, and optimism to all in the family. With a Sahitya Ratan (MA) in Hindi and a BA in English, she was a poet at heart. Her memory bank for literary compositions was unbelievable. An avid newspaper reader, she was fond of the Ask Ann Landers column, and would often talk about the issues raised and solutions sought.
Prema was enamoured with nature, especially the ocean. She derived energy from watching nature shows on the Discovery Channel. She was very appreciative of her travel experiences in India and abroad. She had a green thumb and nurtured plants. Above all, she was an excellent cook. Her pickles were unbeatable, and she could find a way to makeover/preserve any food.
Prema’s radiant beauty was often complimented.
Prema is survived by her children and their spouses Abha (Sudeep), Anil (Bhavna), Smita (Amitabh), and Leena (Sanjay); her grandchildren Aditya (Elizabeth), Anant (Neha), Amol (Alysha), Nidhi (Kanishk), Poorva (Nilayam), Anirudh, Supriya (Lucas), and Meghan. She was yet to meet her only great-grandchild, Kabir. She is fondly remembered by her brothers Anami (Thillotama) and Prakash (Kumud).
She is predeceased by her husband, Narsingh, and sisters, Suman and Gura.
