We have known Derek since he was born. He grew into a caring, honest, funny, intelligent and wonderful human being. He always popped by our Christmas get togethers over the years. In the early years he would play with the train around the tree, and even when he was a teenager, he would come by to say hello to everyone and to spend time with our daughter, Stephanie, which always made her smile. His gentle way with Stephanie, his eagerness to help her out, made him a lifelong friend of hers. We could always depend on him to help us out for almost anything. Over the years, Derek would babysit, pet sit, water plants, walk our dog if we were running late… anything and everything. His compassion, caring, and willingness to help, were undeniable and so very much appreciated. We enjoyed all our conversations with him and his insights on many subjects. He was a wonderful neighbour and friend to our family. His struggles were real and we hope he has now found peace. He will always be in our hearts, and we will miss him dearly. We send our love to all the family.
