Gordon Vejprava, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at the age of 90 years.
Gordon was born in Blairmore, AB, on May 2, 1933. In 1953, he moved to Marion, Ohio, to play with the Marion Barons (International Hockey League). Gordon turned pro with the Cleveland Barons in 1954 (American Hockey League). In 1960, he was traded to the Calgary Stampeders (Western Hockey League). From there, he played with the Los Angles Blades, Vancouver Canucks, and retired with the Denver Spurs in 1970. In Gordon’s 16 years of pro hockey, he played 1007 games. In the off-season from hockey, he played pro baseball with the Granum White Sox. After retiring from sports, Gordon worked as a golf course Superintendent with the City of Calgary, retiring from Confederation Golf Course in 1993.
Gordon was a long-standing member of the Calgary Winter Club and Country Hills Golf Club.
Gordon will be remembered by his daughter Sherrall (Terry), grandson Jesse, daughter-in-law Kim, sister Margaret Ann, (Dorlan), as well as several nieces and nephews.
Gordon was predeceased by his loving wife Georgeann, son Darrell, and brother Roy.
The family extends appreciation to the excellent care of Dr. Ian Johnston and the Palliative home care team.
Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street N, Calgary, AB T2E 2V6) on Friday, January 12, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
