Obituary of Anka Sostar
August 13, 1939 – Prilišće, Croatia
January 11, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Anka on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at the age of 84 years.
Anka was born in Prilišće, Croatia, to Franje and Ana Subasic. She had a younger brother Nikola, whom she adored. Anka married her husband, Janko, in 1958 and together they immigrated to Canada in 1962 to start a new life together.
Anka was an amazing cook and loved preparing food for her family and friends. She also took pleasure in baking, needlework, and fishing. She enjoyed nature and her favorite place was being outdoors at the Croatian land, known as the Šuma. This is where Anka was the happiest! She cherished spending time there with Janko and her family, tending to her gardens, camping, and feeding the birds. Anka was blessed with four grandchildren who she loved dearly and were the joys of her life.
Anka is survived by her husband of 65 years, Janko, her son Johnny (Sophia), her daughter Sandy (Nick), grandchildren Niko and Maggie Jugovic, and little Johnny and Noelia Sostar; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins across Canada and Europe. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother Nikola.
We will always remember our Anka for her warm smile, strong work ethic, and gentle spirit. We love you!
Rest in Heavenly Peace
