Obituary of Megan Marie Barron
April 3, 1986 - Edmonton, Alberta
January 15, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta
Megan Barron of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024, at the age of 37 years.
Megan was born in Edmonton, AB, and lived there until she moved to Calgary with her family at the age of ten. During her elementary years, she was vibrant, with a spitfire personality. She participated in ballet, soccer, gymnastics, swimming, art classes, and any social club she could. After the family relocated to Calgary, in Jr. High Megan took modeling, volunteered at WIN House, and worked part-time at Sobeys.
Megan was thrilled at becoming a big sister to Liam. She was an avid signer for the deaf from an early age, given that was Liam’s first language.
When health issues started to present challenges for Megan, she never lost the smile and sense of humour that everyone who knew her loved her for. These challenges only made her more determined to keep moving forward and live as normal a teenage life as possible.
A huge joy in Megan’s life was the day she married her husband, Larry Findlater. Known to all as Larry’s Bride, they showed the world that anyone can fall in love and commit to each other. Together they faced their challenges side by side.
Megan came to know Jesus as her Lord and Savior not long after she moved into the care facility that Larry was in. Larry was attending RMCC, and she thrived on attending with him, connecting with people, soaking up the Sunday morning sermons, going to Christmas banquets, and other events as they were able. Megan didn't hesitate to ask questions and we watched with delight as her faith grew, and very quickly, her relationship with Jesus permeated everything about her. As her health deteriorated, her longing to "go home" intensified and she talked much about going to see Jesus and other loved ones in Heaven.
Megan attended LaPerle Elementary in Edmonton, and Queen Elizabeth, St. Helena’s, and St. Francis Schools in Calgary.
Megan will be most remembered for her gentle and happy spirit, with that vibrant smile.
Besides her loving husband, Larry Findlater, Megan is survived by her mother Sherry MacArthur, father Kim Barron, brother Liam (Kayla), grandparents, Lloyd and Ethel MacArthur; and uncle Larry of Nova Scotia, uncles, Dante (Lorrie), Wade (Liz), Marlow (Sybil) Barron; aunt Colleen (Nick) Milkovich of Alberta, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws across Canada. Megan was predeceased by her grandparents, James and Noreen Barron of Edmonton; and stepdad Nelson Yuen of Medicine Hat.
Always remembered and cherished are those friends and caregivers who gave themselves to Megan. Much gratefulness to Debbie and Peter Beam who were always there for Megan, Uncle Wade who took every chance to be with her, and the staff at Nickle House Carewest Calgary.
