Obituary of Sharyn Anne Brown
November 20, 1946 – Penticton, British Columbia
January 17, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
On Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at the tender age of 77, Sharyn Brown, a woman of remarkable compassion and strength, peacefully passed away surrounded by her loved ones.
Sharyn was born in Penticton, BC, on November 20, 1946. She lived in various places, including Canmore and Stettler, before settling in Calgary, AB. After many years of being together, Sharyn and Gerry decided to tie the knot in Las Vegas, NV, in October of 2010. Upon returning, they celebrated their marriage with family and friends. Sharyn and Gerry held a deep affection for each other and valued the experiences they shared during their travels.
Sharyn was not only a loving wife but also the best mother anyone could ask for. Her boundless love and devotion to her children and grandchildren were unparalleled. Always there for her family, she created a home filled with warmth and love.
Having lived a life rich in experiences, Sharyn leaves behind a legacy of accomplishment and community service. Her extensive skills in fundraising, advocacy, project planning, and development were instrumental in her successful career. Sharyn retired from Horizon Housing (currently Onward Housing), which is a not-for-profit organization that provides affordable and supportive homes to vulnerable Calgarians. Her strategic planning, visionary thinking, persistence, drive, integrity, and commitment made her a respected figure in her field. Sharyn made a lasting impact on those around her, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and dedication to making the world a better place.
May Mum rest in peace, and may her memory continue to inspire and uplift those who knew and loved her.
Sharyn is survived by her son Jesse, daughters, Jordy (Chad) Omelchuk and Jill Watts (Darren Kaiser); stepdaughter Miaka Nufer (Ken McIntyre), brother Hugh, sisters, Valerie (Gord) Steinbach and Lorna (Ed) Frere; brother Rob (Olena) Brown, grandchildren, Ewan, Sloan, Royce, and Lincoln; and step-grandchildren, Otis and Tucker McIntyre; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Sharyn was predeceased by her husband Gerry Nufer, father Norman, mother Sally, brother Mac, and brother Jackie.
A Celebration of Sharyn's Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, January 26, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
