Gordon James McArthur was born on May 11, 1947, a remarkable day, that coincided with both his father's birthday and Mother's Day in Moose Jaw, SK. Gordon peacefully departed this world on Monday, January 29, 2024, at the age of 76 years, surrounded by the warmth and familiarity of home.
Gordon's extraordinary life journey is a testament to his unwavering determination, loving spirit, and remarkable achievements. It was during his time at James Fowler High School in Calgary, AB, that he crossed paths with his soulmate and future wife, Barbara. Together, they embarked on a beautiful journey filled with love, companionship, and shared dreams.
Gordon was always driven by his passion for knowledge and personal growth. After high school, he pursued his academic aspirations, moving to Washington State as a young husband and new father. There, he successfully completed his Bachelor of Commerce degree at Eastern Washington University, broadening his horizons and shaping his future path.
With newfound knowledge and an unyielding desire to make a positive impact, Gordon returned to Calgary. He embraced a fulfilling career with the Calgary Fire Department, fearlessly serving his community with unwavering bravery and compassion, saving countless lives for 34 years. During his service to the Calgary Fire Department, Gordon received a commendation for acts of heroism and bravery. While simultaneously serving his community as a fireman, Gordon also worked as a realtor, a career that spanned over five decades. During his careers, he touched the lives of countless clients and established himself as a trusted advisor in the industry. His dedication, professionalism, and genuine care for others earned him the utmost respect and admiration from both colleagues and clients alike.
However, if you were to ask Gordon what his favorite role was, he would undoubtedly say his roles as a husband, father, and grandfather. These were the roles that brought unparalleled joy and fulfillment to his life. He treasured every moment spent with his daughter Paige and son-in-law John, granddaughters, Brooklynn and Jordann, and his grandson-in-law Claudio.
If Gordon wasn’t working or spending time with his family, you could guarantee that he was out on the golf course. His vibrant spirit and magnetic personality made him a cherished member of the close-knit community at Silver Springs Golf and Country Club. In 1977, he joined this prestigious establishment, where he not only honed his golfing skills but forged countless enduring relationships with friends and clients alike. Throughout all aspects of his life, Gordon believed wholeheartedly in the power of integrity, honesty, and hard work. His clients and friends could depend on his integrity, knowing that his advice was rooted in their best interests. Gordon always prioritized staying within one's means, recognizing the importance of financial responsibility and making choices that would bring long-term stability and happiness.
Gordon's often-cited motto, "No matter where you go, there you are," served as a gentle reminder to embrace the present moment and find contentment in every stage of life's journey. This mantra revealed his wisdom and appreciation for the transformative power of mindfulness, encouraging others to seek happiness and fulfillment wherever they may find themselves.
Gordon is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, brothers, Mitchell Thoreson (Pat Tieman) and Terry Thoreson; daughters, Paige Fernandes (Dr. John Fernandes) and Michelle Green; and grandchildren, Jordann Fernandes (Claudio Tarasco), Brooklynn Fernandes, William, Grayson, and Emma Green. Gordon was predeceased by his father Gordon Hugh McArthur, his mother Joan Thoreseon, and his stepfather Roy Thoreseon.
As per Gordon’s wishes a private family service will be held.
