Obituary of Arlie Anne Laboret
February 21, 1932 – Edmonton, Alberta
January 30, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
Arlie Laboret passed away peacefully at the age of 91 years after several months in hospice care. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 68 years, Arthur, in 2021.
She was born and raised in Edmonton and moved to Calgary with her mother in 1948. After marrying and starting her family with Art, his work often took him on the road, so she happily handled most of the responsibility for landscaping the new home and raising their three kids. Debra, Duane, and Deanna each grew up with fond memories of time spent in the cozy backyard with its fishpond and Arlie remained an avid gardener for the rest of her years.
Arlie lived a life of creativity, drew inspiration from nature, and was a lover of both chocolate and animals. Her artistic skills developed over several decades and she became very skilled with pen and ink, watercolors, and oil painting. Her works can be found in many homes, churches, hospitals, and restaurants throughout Western Canada and beyond.
Her membership with the Associated Canadian Travellers (ACT) Ladies Auxiliary Club extended over fifty years and she always enjoyed their regular get-togethers. In her younger days, she loved five-pin bowling and was also a very accomplished golfer with a longtime membership at the Calgary Elks Golf Club (now Winston Heights). Her family members have always been jealous of the THREE holes-in-one on her record.
Quietly elegant, Arlie will be remembered for her warmth, determination, and compassion. Her loving nature endeared her to everyone she came to know.
Arlie is survived by her children, Debra (David Christian), Duane, and Deanna (Steve Weisner); her grandchildren, Jenna, Jessaca, and Mark; and her great-granddaughter Khaleeci. She will be deeply missed by those who love her.
The family would like to thank Mom’s wonderful friends and neighbours for their love and care through the years and extend a special thank you to the staff at Southwood Care Centre, Hospice Unit.
An intimate gathering of the immediate family will attend the forthcoming graveside service.
