Condolences
Roger was my boss for 5 years or so and a mentor when I was at the ISPG (1984-1994) and I was lucky to have my office about 2 or 3 doors away from him. Roger led with a soft touch but with unerring perception and guidance. He guided our contributions to the Peace Arch Project with the AGS and also co-edited and guided our work for the AAPG Foreland Basins & Fold Belts Memoir 55. I was very happy to see and chat a bit with Roger last Fall (2023) at one of the lunches organised by Dianne Cornelius for GSC retirees. Roger was foundational for me when I was looking into doing a grad degree and advised me where I should go and his advice turned out to be right on the money, and I’m forever grateful for that.
Dear Marjorie,
On behalf of Plan International Canada, we send our deepest sympathies for your life partner's loss.
Thank you for sharing your legendary life.
Sincerely,
Berna Gulmisal
On behalf of Victoria University, we send our deepest sympathies on your recent loss. Sincerely, the staff of Alumni Affairs & Advancement.
Dear Marjorie:
It was an honour to help you and your family honour Roger’s life, memory and legacy on Saturday. It was gratifying to see the large and diverse attendance of Rogers personal and work acquaintances who attended on Saturday. We spoke briefly prior to the service, but I also wanted to tell you that I had notified a number of Roger’s GSC colleagues as well as Madeleine Oldershaw regarding Roger’s passing. Many of them, including Ashton Embry, Randell Stephenson, Shimon and Edna Feinstein and Family, and Madeleine, asked me to convey their heartfelt condolences to you and your family. Shimon and Edna also sent me a letter, which I hope to be able to pass on to you. Shimon and Edna were very appreciative of the help and friendship that you and Roger extended to them while they lived in Calgary. I have already sent Shimon and Edna copies of the service leaflet and obituary that were provided at Saturday’s service. I will post their letter to you through this portal in another posting.
Again, let me say what an honour it was to help you and your family celebrate Roger’s many gifts, experiences and great kindnesses.
Most Sincerely,
Kirk Osadetz,
To the Family and Friends of Roger, what a legacy!
Thank you for the lovely obituary and a glimpse into a wonderful life. We were fortunate to have had Roger as a Professor at the University of Waterloo and pleased to re-connect with him when he returned to Calgary and the GSC.
He was a wonderful teacher and a kind gentleman.
So sorry to hear this. Roger and I connected at the University of Waterloo. I had the prvledge to take several courses from him. His passion for the geology of Canada shone through every lecture. My sympathies to his family at the difficult time. Thank you for sharing him with our industry for so many years.
Marj and family,
In the few years that we knew Roger we were lucky to experience what a kind and wonderful man he was. It was always a pleasure to bump into you both when out for a walk. He will be missed.
Sharrin and Elio
With gratitude for the inspiration and passion for geology Roger bestowed on me through his teaching at Waterloo and with sincere condolences to all of Roger’s family.
Hilary
Dear Marjorie and Family, both Jan and I would like to express our sincere condolences on Roger's passing. I remember my visit to Calgary in 1975 and Roger driving me around in his red sports car. He loved that vehicle. It was also nice reconnecting at the family reunion 2010 and spending time at our cottage on Otter Lake. He lived a great life. He will always be remembered by family and friends.
Bill and Jan Chepesiuk
