February 26, 1946 – February 2, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Roderick Hugh Jaquish, age 77, on Friday, February 2, 2024, in Cobble Hill, BC.

Rod was born in York, England, and moved as a six-month-old baby with his war-bride mother from England to Canada, where he grew up in Calgary. He later lived in Crossfield and Airdrie. Rod’s favourite stories to tell were always of him and his friends gallivanting across Calgary, getting into whatever trouble they could find. In his 20s, Rod discovered a passion for carpentry and found himself working at, and later owning Crestview Floors. In his retirement with his wife, he spent his time chasing good golfing weather, spending his summers in Calgary, and winters on Vancouver Island. Papa loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and cheering them on, especially hockey and baseball.

Throughout his life, Rod played many sports, including racing dirt bikes, hockey, baseball, golf, and curling, as well as coaching the Carstairs double AA bantam hockey team. He was a fan of the Calgary Flames and New York Yankees, cheering on his teams through victories and losses. Later on, Rod discovered a passion for golf that extended to making his family watch it, play it, and love it. Rod was an active member of Carstairs Community Golf Club for 43 years. He never missed a tee time with the breakfast club or men’s night in Carstairs, or at Arbutus Ridge on Vancouver Island.

He is predeceased by his wife and the love of his life, Margaret Jaquish, and parents Roderick and Vera Jaquish.

He is survived by his children Mandy (Jason) Nolan and Josh (Jackie) Jaquish; his grandchildren Emily and Ty Nolan and Mollie, Mackenzie, and Amy Jaquish; his brothers, Barry, Ian, and Kevin Jaquish; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were very special to him.

"Golf is the closest game to the game we call life. You get bad breaks from good shots; you get good breaks from bad shots – but you have to play the ball where it lies."

- Bobby Jones.
