January 24, 1941 – Prague, Czech Republic
February 21, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear wife, mother, and grandmother “Babi”, Jarmila Horsky. She passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at the age of 83 years.
Jarmila will be greatly missed by her husband, Jiri (George) Horsky, her three children, Helena Horsky (David Fleming), John Horsky, and Stefan Horsky (Jodi Langille); and her four grandchildren, Anna Fleming, Alina Fleming, Mikayla Horsky, and Samuel Horsky. She also leaves behind her brother Karel Slama (Jana Slamova), and her nephews, Karel and Honza Slama, of the Czech Republic.
Jarmila moved to Calgary in 1968 with her husband Jiri and began their lives here in Calgary. Jarmila was a member of the Glencoe Club, the former Glenmore Racquets Club, and the CTC where she continued her passion for tennis and met many of her lifelong friends. She was an avid tennis player and due to her success, she was inducted into the Alberta Tennis Hall of Fame. She also loved playing golf, skiing, hiking, and water skiing.
She was a devoted wife and mother and spent many years volunteering for her children’s competitive sports, whether it be at the skating rink, the tennis courts, or on the golf course, she always lent a hand and volunteered wherever there was need. She is most proud of her four grandchildren, whom she loved fiercely and took great joy in following all their endeavors. Her most fond memories are those traveling with her husband, spending time with all her family and friends, and enjoying time with her loved ones at their cabin on Lake Blaine in Montana.
We will miss you dearly.
