Obituary of Byril Stella Hutchcroft

September 6, 1944 – Deer Lake, Newfoundland

February 21, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Byril Hutchcroft (nee Moss) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at the age of 79 years.

Byril was born and raised in Deer Lake, Newfoundland. She met and married Gordon on June 30, 1961. Together with their family they moved to Calgary in 1979 and resided there for the remainder of their lives. She accomplished much throughout her life but was particularly proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Byril loved spending time with family and friends, cooking, baking, and preparing family dinners. She also enjoyed her getaways to the casinos.

Byril’s most memorable moments are fishing and berry picking as a child.

Byril’s favourite saying was “Yes, my love.”.

She will be most remembered for her beautiful smile, and genuine care for everyone she met and for her homemade bread.

Byril is survived by her five children, three sons and two daughters, Byron Hutchcroft, Gordon (Diana) Hutchcroft, Norman Hutchcroft, Corina Hutchcroft (Jim Middleton), and Nancy (Brent) Munroe; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Byril is also survived by her brother Jim and two sisters, Delores and Jane, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Byril was predeceased by her husband Gordon, grandson Colin, parents, Norman and Rebecca Moss, her brothers, Wayne, Samuel, Norman, and Glen; and by her sisters, Holly and Maxine

A Celebration of Byril’s Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow at Mid-Sun Community Centre (50 Midpark Rise SE, Calgary, AB) from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join Mrs. Hutchcroft’s service streamed live (see link below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted.
