February 26, 2024 – Cochrane, Alberta
It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Marjorie “Lynn” Hickey, on Monday, February 26, 2024, at the age of 75 years, at her home surrounded by family.
Lynn was born August 6, 1948, in Calgary, AB, and grew up on the family farm in Madden, AB. She was involved in 4-H, where her love of animals began. She would often bring home stray animals in need of love and care.
After graduating from Westbrook High School in 1966, she embarked on a life-changing adventure to London, England, when she was accepted into the Royal College of Nursing School. She graduated from Nursing School and began working in London, where she met and married the love of her life, Pat Hickey. They had two children before returning to Canada where they had three more children. They settled in the Cochrane area and spent many years together raising their family and honouring their Catholic faith.
In 1977 she started her 41-year nursing career at the Foothills Medical Centre. Throughout her career, Lynn touched the lives of countless patients with her gentle touch, kindness, and empathy. Her commitment to providing exceptional care also led her to the Bethany Care Centre, where she became passionate about geriatric nursing. Her nursing career gave her the opportunity to be a part of the births of all four of her grandchildren and after retiring, she enjoyed spending her days with her family and pets and watching her grandchildren grow.
Lynn is survived by her children, Jackie Rathwell, Gerry Hickey, Genean Hickey, Kevin Hickey, and Colleen Marlow; sons-in-law, Gerald Rathwell and Michael Marlow; daughter-in-law Crystal Hickey, and grandchildren, Hannah Rathwell, Justin Rathwell, Patrick Hickey, and Izabella Marlow. She is also survived by her brother Allan Sharp and his wife Linda Sharp, her sister Victoria Sharp, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and extended family in Canada, Ireland, and England. She was predeceased by her husband Pat Hickey.
