Obituary of Ruby Mushayandebvu

March 2, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

Ruby Mushayandebvu, beloved wife of John Mushayandebvu, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at the age of 90 years.

Ruby has been the matriarch of the family, a tower of strength for us all, and she will be greatly missed. She leaves a void in our lives. Her cooking, her singing, her guidance, and all-embracing love will forever be felt. Ruby was a devout and practising Catholic.

In addition to dedicating her life to raising and educating her own children, Ruby had a significant influence on many others as a teacher, and as a businesswoman. All of us have our mementoes of her fabulous knitting skills and will continue to feel her warmth in the winter months each year. She was also the best chicken stew chef ever.

In the words of her grandchildren, “Gogo always makes you feel like you are her favourite, no matter how many favourites she has”.

Ruby is survived by her children, Edmund, Imma, Martin, Alois, Taonei, and Irene, together with their partners; her seventeen grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. In the true African sense, she was Amai and Gogo to many, many more. Ruby is also survived by her numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
