Obituary of Robert John Brewster

Robert (Bob) John Brewster peacefully passed away on Monday, March 4, 2024, in Olds, AB.

Bob was born on May 21, 1929, in Innisfail, AB, to James and Jean Brewster. He attended high school at a Country School east of Bowden, graduating in 1937. He went on to earn a degree and certificate in Ag Mechanics from Olds College and later worked for Standard General for 35 years. Bob had a deep passion for hunting and fishing, making numerous trips across BC, AB, and SK with his family. He and his wife Iyla also enjoyed travelling across Europe and Australia. Hawaii held a special place in their hearts, where they cherished moments walking down the beach in Waikiki during the winter months.

Bob was actively involved in the Southern Alberta Pioneers and played a crucial role in designing and constructing the beautiful iron gate seen at the entrance today. He served as president of this organization in 2007. Additionally, Bob volunteered tirelessly for the Calgary Stampede for over 50 years, taking great pride in leading the barn tours and sharing his knowledge about the animals with visitors.

Robert Brewster is survived by his wife Iyla Brewster, currently residing in Olds, AB; his youngest brother Ab Brewster of Bowden, AB, his sons, James (Margaret) Brewster and Jack (Karel) Brewster; his granddaughter Jolene (Mike) Brewster Mendelman, along with great-grandchildren, Iyla and James; granddaughter Kelly (Aaron) Brewster VanGinhoven, along with great-grandchildren, Sydney and Lily; grandson Matthew Brewster; and granddaughter Jennifer (Eric) Brewster McCauley, along with great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Tyler, and Adam.

Funeral Services will be held at Bonavista Baptist Church (1507 Acadia Drive SE, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. – all friends are welcome. The service will be officiated by The Rev. Scott Simpson. Funeral Arrangements were provided by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes in Calgary.
