Obituary of June Knowles

June 15, 1930 – Toronto, Ontario

March 6, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

With heavy hearts, the family of June Knowles announces her passing on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at the age of 93 years young.

Phyllis June Louise Tobin was born in Toronto, ON, on June 15, 1930, to George and Phyllis Tobin (nee Davis). She graduated as an RN from the Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing and married RCN Chief Petty Officer Ralph Knowles in 1953. June lived her life as a devoted wife, a loving mother, a committed nurse, an adventurous traveler, and a valued friend. She was active and fit throughout her long life. She kept up with world affairs, enjoyed following curling, and tennis, and attended many reunions of her graduating class, as well as countless events with her lunch and dinner clubs. Following Ralph’s passing in 1993, June focused on seeing the world, taking riverboat cruises throughout Europe, and trips to China, India, and South America.

She is survived by her son Grant Knowles (Jodi), daughter Karin Bennett (Steve), three grandchildren, Scott Bennett (Nao), Lauren Bennett, and Colin Knowles, and great-grandson Kai Bennett.

A Celebration of June’s Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, March 15, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. Reception to follow on the Upper Level at the Funeral Home.

We acknowledge, with gratitude, Dr. Carpentier and the Unit 73 nursing team at Rockyview Hospital, as well as the healthcare team and Dr. Wash at Carewest Glenmore Park for the compassionate care provided to our mother.
