Obituary of Gloria Evelyn Gregorchuk
April 20, 1941 – Winnipeg, Manitoba
March 12, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
Gloria Evelyn Gregorchuk (nee Reid) of Calgary, AB, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at the age of 82 years.
Gloria was born on April 20, 1941, in Winnipeg, MB. She met her soulmate, Boris, at Imperial Roadways in Winnipeg. They were married on September 8, 1962, and spent their honeymoon moving to Calgary. Gloria created a loving and organized home while Boris worked tirelessly driving many miles. They welcomed their first daughter Colleen in October 1963, and then their second daughter, June, in April 1966.
Gloria worked in the trucking industry for Motorways Transport Ltd., and eventually retired from TransX Ltd. Gloria’s devotion to her family was strong and profound. Although Gloria worked full-time, she always managed to make amazing dinners, sew Barbie doll clothes, clean the house, bake every weekend, teach Sunday School, and instill a diligent work ethic into her children.
She always took time to have fun with her family. Summers were often spent camping and enjoying West Bay Beach near Kelowna and then later, Mara Lake. Gloria and Boris spent many weekends camping in their motorhome and golfing. Later, they became members at Nanton Golf Club which allowed them to frequently escape the city life and enjoy each other’s company while staying in the motorhome. On occasion, she might even have beaten Boris on the golf course. After all, she was a pretty damn good putter. They enjoyed winters in Arizona where they met some wonderful friends. This filled their days with golf, shuffleboard, bingo, baseball tailgate parties, and the odd happy hour.
Gloria was her grandchildren’s biggest cheerleader and fan. She watched their hockey, baseball, and soccer games, as well as their equestrian events, skating, and dance competitions. She enjoyed playing board games with her grandchildren and was always up for a good game of crib. She eagerly prepared for Christmas and enjoyed celebrating the holidays with her family.
Gloria was very dependable, as her love for family, friends, and her community ran deep and strong. She was always ready to lend a helping hand whenever it was needed. Gloria had a talent for making all feel welcome and never failed to put a smile on your face. She could strike up a conversation with anyone and her goodbyes were often too long for Boris; they included many hugs for everyone. Every card was always signed “Hugs 2 U”.
Gloria was a devoted wife, Mom, Granny, and loyal friend to many. She will be dearly missed by her daughter June (Bruce), son-in-law Vince, and her grandchildren, Nicole (Mike), Nathan (Katarina), Nick (Madyson), and Raylene.
Gloria was predeceased by her loving husband of 61 years, Boris, in January 2024, and her daughter Colleen in April 2021.
