Condolences
Apologies for this very late note. I just learned of Monique's passing.
Monique was my first real friend in a new city. We moved to Calgary at the same time, and met in the first few weeks of high school. She was my partner in crime - figuratively and maybe literally! We spent our teen years together almost constantly, even working together. There are no words for what she meant to me. Best friend, yes. She had a few, but she was my only one.
Memories include dancing, sleepovers, riding a grocery cart down a hill, our first rave, a ski trip with her family. There is so much more. She was an artist and so creative, and funny. The most I ever laughed in my life was with her. I missed her before she passed. I want you both to know, Willy and John, I think of her often, and she will not be forgotten.
I am saddened to hear about Monique’s passing.
Her pain and struggles are over and she can have peace. She had the gift of a loving caring family. I send my condolences.

Monique was my best friend from ages 7-15. Two school years older than me, she was my big sister too. I loved her so much and will continue to. She was beautiful and goofy and audacious.
Monique introduced me to so many childhood things like rollerskating down steep hills, bubblegum, digging clay from a stream, computer games and correct makeup application.
We rolled our skirts up on the way to school, we danced to Michael Jackson in the living room, we sang duets in harmony on the bus, we played tennis in the road, we co-wrote stories and talked about boys non-stop.
We were each others biggest fans but she really looked out for me and inspired me.
When she returned to Canada she wrote hilarious letters to me of her thoughts and life.
After years of little contact and Monique's ill health, I am so grateful that I had the chance to reconnect with her on whatsapp and so sorry that she had to battle through so much for so long. She was an adventurous, kind and powerful person and will always be my hero.
