Obituary of Arnold Thomas Hyrve

January 9, 1933 – Bassano, Alberta

March 21, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Arnold Hyrve, beloved husband of Winnifred Hyrve (nee Nolan), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at the age of 91 years.

Arnold was born on January 9, 1933, in Bassano, AB, to Algodt and Alice Hyrve. He grew up on a farm near Gem with his brothers Harold and Norman, and his sister Marilyn.

Dad began his work life doing odd jobs. He later learned to survey and eventually moved up into supervising oilfield crews, mostly in the Arctic. By the end of his career, he was managing and was part owner of a seismic company.

Dad was a philosopher, inventor, and problem solver, often creating gadgets to make jobs easier, and he had a patent on a seismic hole plug. When he retired, Dad's love of fishing, the mountains, and golf drew him to Kaslo, BC. Mom and Dad spent their summers there for over thirty years.

Dad enjoyed his friends, of which there were many, and he loved them dearly. He enjoyed a good joke and was the life of the party. He knew how to tell a story and had many life experiences to share. He had recently taken up playing pool with friends at the Journey Club. He showed a great deal of empathy when he talked to people and was always aware if someone needed a helping hand, making sure to offer his help. He was an extraordinary man who learned life's lessons well.

Dad leaves behind his loving wife, Winnie, whom he adored, his sister, Marilyn Greenwood, his daughters, Louise (Bob), Kari (Peter), and Janine (Paul); as well as eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

I rejoice in the life you lived, Grateful for having shared it with you. I loved you- And was loved by you. We shared so much, cared so much, So many memorable times ... We've been through so much together. How much sadder it would have been If I'd never known you at all. Even though you are gone, you will always be part of me. For you have left me so rich- With a "Precious Legacy of Memories."
