Obituary of Margaret Stender
February 28, 1927 - Lashburn, Saskatchewan
March 26, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Margaret "Peggy" Stender (nee Browning) of Calgary, AB, who passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at the age of 97 years.
Peggy was born in Lashburn, SK, on February 28, 1927. In her later years, she worked as a teacher’s aide and as a switchboard operator before retiring in Cranbrook in 1991. She was a 65-year member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Cranbrook, BC, and volunteered with various other organizations.
Peggy's biggest passion was sports, especially the Kootenay Ice. She never missed a game and loved to watch curling, baseball, bowling, and hockey. One of our fondest memories, was when two police officers came to her door for a welfare check due to the loud yelling and screaming coming from her apartment during a hockey game.
Peggy will be most remembered for her love for sports, sassiness, and strong firecracker personality.
She is survived by her son Michael Stender, and beloved daughter Tarri Duchscherer, along with nine grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Elmer, son Patrick, her parents, and her three siblings.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to AgeCare Seton for their support and loving care.
“It’s ok to grow old, but don’t ever grow up”.
To honour Peggy’s request, there will be no funeral service.
Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Peggy’s family here.
