Obituary of Valentine Muiznieks
January 23, 1928 – Daugavpils, Latvia
April 4, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
Valentine Muiznieks of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at the age of 96 years.
Valentine's life was a journey that began in Daugavpils, Latvia, and took her to Germany in 1943. It was in London, England, where she married Arvids in 1950. Together, they embarked on a new chapter, moving to Toronto in 1951, where they raised their two sons. In 1993, they decided to relocate to Calgary, a move that was driven by their desire to be close to both sons and their families.
Valentine found joy in reading, traveling, and, most of all, spending time with her loved ones. Her competitive spirit remained part of her until the very end, whether in a game of Rummikub or making astute choices in the stock market. She lived well and died well, and she will be greatly missed.
Valentine is survived by her loving sons Vilnis and Rolands; her daughter-in-law Sylvia (Vilnis), Marion (Rolands’ fiancée), and her former daughter-in-law Rasma, whom she thought of as a daughter; her six grandchildren Rudis (Heather), Max (Tanya), Tatiana (Ashley), Erika (Luke), Aleksandra, and Diana (Maciej); and six great-grandchildren, Leif, Allistair, Leon, Anika, Harlan, and Kaia.
As per Valentine’s wishes a private family service will be held.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Valentine’s family here.
