Obituary of Gord Hill
October 3, 1960 – Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
April 9, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with great sorrow that I announce the passing of my beloved husband Gord Hill on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at the age of 63 years.
Gord Hill was born on October 3, 1960, in Saskatoon and spent his formative years in Edmonton. He had many fond memories of his childhood and of growing up in Edmonton.
He graduated at the top of his class with honours in organic chemistry from the University of Alberta and pursued postgraduate studies at MIT in Boston. Mid-way through his PhD program, Gord chose to change his focus to the newly emerging field of computer software. Returning to Canada, Gord graduated in 1992 with an honour’s degree in computer sciences from DeVry University in Calgary.
Gord spent his career working on computer software and data analytics for various energy companies in Calgary where his brilliance, quiet demeanour, and humanity were soon recognized by everyone who had the pleasure of working with him (including me). Gord had the unique ability to be able to work with and talk to anyone and everyone. He was an awesome mentor and made many friends during his 30-year career. He retired from Enerplus Corporation in 2022 as the Senior Data Architect.
Gord was brilliant, kind, caring, generous, compassionate, funny, and humble. He loved with his whole heart. He also laughed with his whole heart so I was always trying to be super funny just so I could hear him laugh. Everyone who knew him has a Gord story to tell and after 30 years together I have a million.
Family was very precious to Gord. He was predeceased by his dad Jim Hill, his mother Sandy Hill, and his sister Allison Broenink.
He is survived by his wife Laura Hill, his daughters, Amanda Lockhart and Amber Lockhart; his grandsons, Jerrie Kolodychuk, and Dorian Lockhart; his auntie Dee Reid, his brother Alec Hill (Esme Varvis) and their children, Apollo Hill and Ulysses Hill; his niece Aleida Broenink, his nephew James Broenink, and many cousins and second cousins.
Rest in Peace my dear, dear husband.
