Obituary of Arnold Mosmann
October 13, 1925 – Eatonia, Saskatchewan
April 9, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with heavy hearts, that we announce the passing of Arnold “Hop” Mosmann, on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at the age of 98 years. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend who will be dearly missed.
Arnold was born on the family farm to parents, Ludwiga and Philip, in Eatonia, SK. He ventured out to Kimberley, BC, at a young age to help with the war effort, by working underground in a lead and zinc mine. This is where he met and married Jane, the love of his life. Arnold’s work took the family to live in Salmo, BC, for work in the mine and to Dunblane, SK, where he worked as a crane operator on the South Saskatchewan River Dam project. The family settled in Calgary in the early 1960s, and his long career as a crane operator began at Western Canada Steel, where he worked until his retirement in 1991.
He had a passion for cars, particularly Fords, owning many over his lifetime. He loved to dance, spending time at the #285 Legion, auto racing, tinkering around the RV at the campground, and his daily coffee meet-ups with friends at Tim Hortons.
Arnold and Jane enjoyed a healthy and happy retirement. They travelled into Mexico, ventured across the USA on a road trip, and eventually settled in as snowbirds in Yuma, AZ, where they enjoyed ATV adventures in the desert and many happy hours with friends and family. Summers back in Calgary were spent in the RV at Country Lane Estates.
Arnold is fondly remembered by his children, Wayne (Veronica) and Gail (Frank); daughter-in-law Sherry, grandchildren, Chelsea (Devin) and Brett (Natalie); brother John, and sister-in-law Yvonne. He was predeceased by his wife Jeannine, son Donald, and siblings, Elsie, Lydia, Millie, Ruth, Joyce, Lou, and Ed.
On behalf of the family, we would like to thank the staff at Southwood Care Centre, for their thoughtful and loving care.
A Celebration of Life for Arnold and Jane will be held at the McInnis & Holloway Hospitality Centre (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
