Wayne Cassidy

Obituary of Wayne John Cassidy

October 31, 1957 – Montreal, Quebec

April 15, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that the family of Wayne John Cassidy announces his passing on Monday, April 15, 2024, at the age of 66 years, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Wayne was born in Montreal, QC, and moved to Van Nuys, California in 1967 where he graduated from high school. He moved with his family to Toronto in 1974 and attended the University of Toronto to attain his Bachelor of Commerce. He then moved to Calgary in 1977 and finished his degree at the University of Calgary.

Wayne worked at a sporting goods store in Calgary and this is where he met the love of his life Peggy, at the restaurant next door. They married in 1981, and together they raised three daughters. He began a career in medical and pharmaceutical sales after his graduation that lasted for more than thirty years.

Wayne loved all sports. He was an avid skier and golfer. He played hockey, squash, racquetball, and tennis until his knees rebelled, and more recently pickleball and disc golf. He enjoyed snowmobiling and his motorcycles and made several trips to the States and Alaska. He enjoyed camping with family and friends and spending time at the family cabin in BC, where he loved to quad and boat. He also took pleasure in fishing, hunting, and target-shooting. He was an avid handyman and did many repairs around his and his daughters’ houses. He liked to paint and sketch animals and birds and was also talented at woodworking and doing renovations around the house.

Wayne will be fondly remembered for his quick wit, a treasure trove of jokes, willingness to always offer support and a lending-hand to family, friends, and neighbors. He had a remarkable ability to connect with everyone around him. His greatest joy in life was his family and he left behind three beautiful daughters and two grandchildren who will forever miss him. Wayne’s life ended far too soon, but he left his friends and family with memories that will last a lifetime.

A special thank you to the oncology team at the Foothills Medical Center, Palliative Care Team and the staff at Unit 93 Rockyview General Hospital for looking after Wayne so well over his final days.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Peggy, daughters, Amy, Elizabeth, and Melissa (Cody); and his grandchildren, Oliver and Rose. He is also survived by his sisters, Sharon (Jim) and Sandra (Larry); mother-in-law Bernice, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary (Larry), Robert (Janet), James (Violet), Bonnie (Al), Jan (Marty), George (Heather), Barb (Glenn), Marla (Rick), and Laura; and numerous nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Wayne was predeceased by his father Howard and mother Muriel.

A Celebration of Wayne’s Life will be announced at a later date.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of the donor’s choice.
