Obituary of Jack Brandreth

John (Jack) Murray Brandreth passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2024, in his 94^th year, in Calgary, AB, the city where he was born and lived his entire life. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Jane, Jill, and Jeff; grandchildren, Christopher (Emily), Jacqueline, and Taylor; sister-in-law Karen, nephews, nieces, and good friends. Jack was predeceased by his father Harold and mother Edith; as well as his brothers, Roy and Ron (Fran).

Jack had a successful investment career. In the 70s, Jack’s firm, Annett McKay Ltd. merged with McDermid, Miller, and McDermid Ltd. Further expansion in the 80s formed McDermid St. Lawrence.

Jack was well-known in the golfing community for his many accomplishments. He learned to golf at Bowness Golf Club, the club his dad operated, located where COP stands today. The course had sand greens and a beautiful old Tudor-style clubhouse. Jack was a long-standing member of the Calgary Golf and Country Club and the Petroleum Club.

In retirement, Jack loved spending winters in Maui, golf trips with friends, and time with family in Windermere, Fairmont, and Vancouver Island. He liked train travel through the Rockies and taking Calgary Transit day trips to explore the ever-expanding city. Dad loved his views of nature and wildlife, and enjoyed sports, bridge, gin rummy, crib, and jigsaw puzzles.

With a twinkle in his eye, Jack would tell stories of his hilarious adventures, and we’d laugh so hard we’d get tears in our eyes, himself included. His intellect, mischievous nature, and wonderful sense of humour were only surpassed by his generosity and genuine love of family and friends. He will be dearly missed.

No service will be held, as per Jack’s request.
