Obituary of Marjorie Louise Kirkham
August 3, 1926 – Edmonton, Alberta
September 26, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
Marjorie Louise Kirkham (nee King) was born August 23, 1926, in Edmonton, AB, and passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at the age of 98 years.
Marj was raised in Edmonton, moved to Vancouver, BC, for a short time, and settled in Duncan, BC, where Judy, Richard “Rick” and Wayne were born. In 1958 Marj and Stan moved to Calgary, AB, where Kenneth “Ken” was born. Together Marj and Stan owned and operated Variations Gift Shop and Ye Old Pipe Shop in Palliser Square until their retirement in 1983.
In her 70s, Marj volunteered with CNIB for many years, leading seniors’ exercise classes and assisting with their lunches. Both Marj and Stan liked to travel, and along with Ken, spent many winters in Mesa, Arizona, USA, where lifelong friendships were made. Spending time with friends and family was their greatest joy. After Stan’s passing, Marj remained devoted to selflessly caring for her son, Kenny.
Marj is survived by her children, Ken Kirkham, Rick Jackson (Helen), Wayne King, and Judy Jackson; stepdaughter Brenda Schneider (Dennis), grandchildren, Autumn, Angie, Alli, Kathy, Dee, Candace, Rena, Lee, and Warren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Special thanks to Marj’s niece Carol for all her years of care and friends Sue Dutchak, Bill Murphy, JP Pouliout, Janet Kelly, as well as Marj and Ken’s many dedicated caregivers.
A Celebration of Marjorie’s Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Monday, October 7, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
