Obituary of Edward Gerald Rawlyk
June 2, 1943 - Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
April 20, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta
Edward “Ed” Rawlyk, beloved husband of 58 years to Eileen Rawlyk (nee Priel), passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the age of 80 years.
Ed was born on June 2, 1943, in Saskatoon, SK, where he attended Tech Collegiate High School, and later graduated with a Business Management Diploma from Mount Royal College. He was a proud member of the Naval Cadets for many years while in Saskatchewan. After transferring to Calgary in 1978, to work for the Canadian Government in the Supply and Services print shop, in the newly constructed Harry Hays Building, he then went on to open his own print shop in 1987. One Stop Printshop was one of Ed’s proudest business achievements.
In his free time, Ed enjoyed playing golf with Eileen, watching hockey, restoration painting, and being a skilled handyman. Ed was known to have the most well-manicured lawn in his community. He was skilled at the accordion, loved bowling, and the high heat setting on the barbeque, despite its negative impact on the food he prepared. Ed's most memorable vacations included camping in Saskatchewan with his family, golf trips in Phoenix, and the "fishing trip" in Mexico with his brother-in-law Jim.
Ed will be lovingly remembered by his two daughters, Shauna (Shaun) and Michelle (Tony); two sons, Ryan (Jennifer) and Rich (Kathy); and eight grandchildren, Kyler, Samantha, Rebecca, Trey, Levi, twins, Olivia and Sophia, and Evyn. Ed is also survived by his two brothers, Ernie and Dale; and five sisters, Dianne, Irene, Marion, Doreen, and Carol.
He was predeceased by his parents, Bessie and Michael; brother Leonard, and his beloved pet, Meg the Bull Mastiff.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the staff at South Health Campus and especially Father Lacombe Providence who have provided support, care, and compassion during Ed’s journey. Ed could always be found with a smoke and a toothpick in his hand or mouth, for which he will always be remembered, as well as his quiet yet loving presence and dedication to his wife and family.
Rest in peace, Ed. Your legacy of love and hard work will continue to inspire those who knew you.
A private family event will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024.
Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Ed’s family here.
