Obituary of Stanley James Clayton

May 5, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

 

It is with deep sadness that we announce that Stanley Clayton U.E., beloved husband of Agnes “Peg” Clayton (nee Smith), of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at the age of 94 years.

 

Stanley was born in Killam, AB, on November 10, 1929. He lived on a farm south of Edmonton and received his high school education in the city. Stan and Peg were married in 1951 and moved to Calgary in 1954. He was a founding member of the Anglican Church of the Good Shepherd in Calgary.

 

Stan was a proud and active Freemason who served in many positions that benefited his brethren. He was a past master of King George Lodge No. 59 in the Grand Lodge of Alberta. Stan received his 33rd degree in the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry of Canada on September 8, 1988, and was made an Active Past Member on September 17, 2005. Stan was also a founding member of the Scottish Rite Learning Centre for Dyslexic Children (Valley of Calgary).

 

Stan was a 5th generation Canadian, with roots tracing back to the United Empire Loyalists. He proudly used the initials U.E. (Unity of the Empire) after his name. An avid fisherman and hunter, he loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping with his family and friends.

 

Besides his loving wife of 72 years, Stanley is survived by his children and their families; his daughter, Brenda Clayton (Dr. Donald Holmes), and her family, David Holmes, Dr. Sheila Holmes (Gregor Pachmann), and Teresa Holmes (Greg Siemens); his son, James Clayton (Linda Wheatley), and his family, Joshuah Clayton (Ashlea), Kathryn, Andrew, and Patrick; as well as Jeremiah Clayton, Jacob Clayton (Jessika Moore), Jaxton, Jayla, Jace, and Jett; Heather George (Brent), Emily, Elyse, and Liam. He is also survived by his son Kelvin Clayton, and daughter Nancy Thomson (Stuart), and her family, Tracee Hamel (Marc) Morgan, and Breeanna; and Robert Tardiff (Amanda Martin).  

 

Stanley is also survived by his sisters, Linda Bodkin (Ron), Judy Paton, Jeanette Tauber (Dave), and brother Mike (Karen), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and his Freemason brothers and families.

 

Stanley was predeceased by his granddaughter Rebecca Holmes, his parents, Laura Grace Malcolm Clayton and William James Clayton; his brother Jack, and his sisters, Jeanne Alexander and Louisa Webster.

 

A Memorial Service will be held at Anglican Church of the Good Shepherd (408 38 St SW, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at 1:00 p.m.

Family and friends who are unable to attend in person are invited to join
