Obituary of Gustav Norman Gruben

May 11, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
Gustav ‘Norman’ Gruben, of Calgary, AB, passed away, quietly in his sleep, on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at the age of 85 years.
Norm was raised and educated in Moose Jaw, SK. He was the second oldest of seven siblings. Once out of high school, he joined the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry. After retiring from the military Norm had a long and successful career in construction, working in several provinces until retiring in Alberta in 2011 as a Construction Superintendent with many accolades to his name.
Norm was an avid reader and enjoyed all kinds of music. He also enjoyed travelling, curling, and ballroom dancing, but most of all, he enjoyed time spent with family and friends.
He will be most remembered for his laugh, his awesome bear hugs, and his generosity.
Norm is survived by his three brothers, Karl (Nancy), Steve (Deborah), and David; and sister Liz. He will also be sadly missed by his numerous nieces and nephews.
Norm was predeceased by his son Norman Jr., father Sverre Gustav, mother Margaret Ellen, and sisters, Grace (Jack) and Mary Ellen (Jim).
