Obituary of Don James O'Connor

February 26, 1931 – Windsor, Ontario

It is with deep sorrow and much love that the family of Don O’Connor of Calgary, AB, mourn his peaceful passing on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at the age of 93 years.

Don was born on February 26, 1931, in Windsor, ON. After graduating with a degree in civil engineering in 1957, Don began a career which included heavy civil works (railroads, earthworks, industrial buildings), major construction projects such as mine development, the 1988 Olympics facilities, and frigate shipbuilding. His career spanned overseas and nationwide across Canada, where he eventually retired from M&B Technical Testing in March 2023.

In 1957, Don married Marie-Paule and together raised their family, starting in Sept-Iles, QC. His dedication to his professional career allowed Don opportunities to live overseas, which enabled him to provide great experiences for his most special devotion, which was always to his family.

Don was predeceased by Marie-Paule in 2016 and is survived by his children, Dan, Mike, Patricia (Dave), and Christine; grandchildren, Jonathan, Shawn, Matthew, and Stephanie; and great-grandchildren, Sophie, Ireland, River, and Mia.

A Celebration of Don’s Life will be held privately by his immediate family members.
