Celebration of Bunny's Life
Obituary of A.E. (Bunny) Hall
May 2, 1921 – Coleman, Alberta
May 17, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
“It was a wonderful life!”
Two weeks into her 104th year, and after a short illness, Bunny passed away peacefully at Rockyview General Hospital on Friday, May 17, 2024. Her final days were filled with family visits, videos of her great-grandson Liam chortling and carrying on, and grandson Rob crooning over the phone.
Bunny is survived by son Lyle of Niagara-on-the-Lake, daughter Karen, grandchildren Leslie (Sean) and Robert; and great-grandson Liam, all of Calgary. She was predeceased by her husband of fifty years, Bill Hall, and sons-in-law, Ken Hedlin and Brian Morrison.
Born in Coleman, AB, to father Robert (Bobbie) and mother Annie, Bunny was the sixth of seven children in the Jenkins clan. After Annie’s death, when Bunny was but seven, she went to live with her older sister Mary in Seebe, AB. Mary and brothers, George, Joe, Jack, Cub, and younger brother Doug, all predeceased her.
Bunny was the very definition of the Greatest Generation. Hard-working, humble, determined, frugal (like everyone who lived through the depression), and blessed with a generous helping of common sense. She was a fiercely independent woman who was respected by her children and adored by her grandchildren. Bunny inspired many others … many more than she ever realized.
She served in the Royal Canadian Air Force Women’s Division and made lifelong friendships. Forced to leave her government job after marriage (that was the rule in the 1950s!), Bunny kept busy raising her kids, managing the household, and bowling once a week; an activity she enjoyed well into her nineties. For over 25 years, she worked every election and census for all levels of government, hand-counting ballots and meticulously typing census results on a manual typewriter.
In her final days, she instructed us, “Don’t mourn me, I’ve had a good life and lived longer than most.”
As per Bunny’s wishes, no formal service will be held. Family, friends, and the Verve Aspen Woods community are invited to an informal gathering to celebrate Bunny's life at Verve Aspen Woods on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The family would like to thank the medical and support team of Unit 72 at Rockyview General Hospital for their thoughtful and professional attention these past few weeks.
If desired, in lieu of flowers and in keeping with Bunny’s practice of sending $25 to any charity that asked, please make a donation to a charity of your choosing.
Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Bunny’s family here. A video, celebrating Bunny’s 1st and 2nd centuries, will be posted here by June 26th.
