Obituary of Gordon Roy Symington

July 25, 1930 – Shaunavon, Saskatchewan

May 17, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta

Gordon Symington, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024, at the age of 93 years.

Gordon was born in Shaunavon, SK, on July 25, 1930, and moved to Calgary, AB, when he was a young boy. He married Kathleen Jaworski on May 17, 1958, and they celebrated their 66th anniversary the day Gordon passed away. Gordon was employed with Mobile Oil in Calgary as an accountant for twenty-six years until his early retirement in 1984.

Gordon and Kathleen loved to travel with their travel trailer, taking several trips across Canada and the United States with their kids throughout the years. They also traveled with their friends, the Meyers, on several multi-month trips throughout the United States. Together with twenty-four other couples, they purchased land north of Sundre, AB, and developed a private campground known as "Group 25,” where each member developed their own individual site. Gordon and Kathleen spent many happy years perfecting their site and making lasting friendships within the group, creating cherished memories with their family and friends.

Gordon is survived by his wife Kathleen, his children, John and Sharon Symington; and grandchildren, Aaron Schwieger and Savannah Schwieger (Dax Allen); his brother and sister-in-law, Adam and Theresa Putz of Regina, SK; his niece Kathie Jaworski, who he was especially close to, as well as many other nieces and nephews in BC, SK, and ON. He was predeceased by his parents, Margaret and Austin Symington; his in-laws, Anastasia and Joseph Jaworski; his brother and sister in-law, Peter and Sally Jaworski; and his nephew, Jeffrey Jaworski.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses in the emergency room, including doctors, Craig, Duan, Joshua, and Michael; as well as all the nurses in the South Health Campus Hospital Emergency Unit and Unit 58, especially Siony. Thank you for the care and compassion you showed our family.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Monday, May 27, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
