Obituary of Sony Moeu

Sony Moeu, beloved husband of Seth Hang of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at the age of 71 years.

Born in Barkan, Cambodia on January 2, 1953, Sony married Seth Hang in 1982. In 1984, they immigrated to Calgary, Alberta, Canada

From 1972 to 1979, Sony served as a Buddhist monk in Thailand and Cambodia. He was an active member of the Khmer Canadian Buddhist Cultural Centre and dedicated his time to volunteering.

Sony loved spending his time with his family and adored his five grandsons. He enjoyed taking long walks and listening to the birds chirping. On his down time, he enjoyed watching WWE, martial arts films, and Thai kickboxing.

Sony will be most remembered for his charm, playfulness, and his quick wittiness.

Besides his loving wife Seth, Sony is survived by his four daughters, Chan, Rattyya, Linda, and Suchetta; three sons-in-law, Eric, Matthew, and Dylan; and five grandchildren, Liam, Lucas, Dominic, Marcus, and Lynkon. Sony is also survived by his two brothers, Pa Moeu in Thailand, and Sinat Moeu in Australia; two sisters, Soy Moeu in Calgary, and Nagev Moeu in Cambodia; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, from Australia, and friends.

Sony was predeceased by parents, Sam Thap and Out Moeu; and his siblings, Vorn Moeu and Seik Moeu.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, May 31, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

A Celebration of Sony’s Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
